Have you perhaps envisioned the near future with AI dominating the workspace and the extent
of human relevance at such time? In this era, with the rising awareness of AI making life easier,
a lot of questions are stirred as to the effect of AI in our society. With different perspectives and
views, the saying “time will tell” comes to play. How exactly the future would look like a few
years from now.
Moving further, it is important to note that AI- Artificial Intelligence is designed with the
purpose of performing tasks as programmed, which involves automating tasks that take a lot
of time if done by a person. Artificial Intelligence is viewed as a technology that enables
computers and machines to simulate human intelligence and problem-solving capabilities.
While it is being noted that these systems seem to perform tasks accurately and efficiently, it
is important to ask ourselves the question, do these systems function on their own? While
we already know AI didn’t just begin existing on its own, it is infact interesting to note that AI
now surpasses human performance on several benchmarks. Its integration to various industries
is remarkable. Ranging from healthcare with robot assisted surgeries, to the educational sector
aiding in research and technology-based learning; the introduction of Chat-gpt, to businesses,
data analytics and numerous other fields.
As different elements work in tandem towards the advancement, it is observed that with every advancement, there are always pros and cons, thereby sparking
extensive debate about the positive outcomes and challenges. While the many advantages of
AI cannot be disputed, as it aids in efficiency of those who adopt it in their affairs, its 24/7
availability amongst others, the potential drawbacks cannot be ignored. The top concern of
humans as regards the integration of AI is the job displacement it causes. Ethical concerns
about privacy, the fear that over reliance on artificial intelligence would make humans lazy
thereby slack in creativity is one that cannot be overlooked.
Despite all these, the contrast of human intelligence to artificial intelligence is an interesting
one. Due to the innovative minds of humans, there will always be creativity, the ability to think
outside the box. AI however cannot in anyway achieve this, as it is constrained to only available
data. Soft skills such as team management amongst many others are not characteristics of AI.
Replicating aspects of human intelligence in machines would be challenging. Human
intelligence therefore remains unparalleled due to their innate nature.
The unending debate of human relevance in a couple years due to AI domination could
however be viewed in a better light. Artificial intelligence could be viewed as a complement to
human abilities rather than one which displaces human relevance. AI could handle data
intensive tasks while humans focus on critical thinking to spur creativity as well as emotional
engagements bringing about an evolving society that maintains innovation and empathy. An
instance of such would be in the healthcare sector. While AI could help capture and analyse
certain medical conditions with precision, doctors could relay such diagnosis to patients with
empathy while seeking solutions to overturn the negative. This is a unique trait that AI cannot
replicate.
Furthermore, the need to embrace lifelong learning to stay relevant in the coming years would
be a necessity. The workforce would need to adapt to the change and get equipped with skills
needed in an AI dominating world. Emphasis on the development of soft skills such as critical
thinking, effective communication and emotional intelligence will prepare humans for new
roles that would emerge due to AI progressions. Developers and people in the tech space who
see to the advancements of AI should also ensure developments align, with societal well being
as priority as well as data privacy. Leveraging our unique and innate abilities as humans while
integrating AI advancements could prove beneficial. Similarly, the advent of new technologies show how the tech ecosystem collaborates with other essential ecosystems, such as the entrepreneurial and incubator environments, which steer progress and development across the globe. Through value creation, exchange of ideas and promotion of curiosity aiding lifelong learning, the tech ecosystem remains a primary driver for global advancement.
In conclusion, the rise of AI does not diminish human relevance. It however calls for the need
to balance integration of Artificial Intelligence with human intelligence, to drive innovation
and address societal challenges, leading to progress. It is important to note that AI would infact
enhance human capabilities rather than replace them, with proper adaptation to the changing
landscape. Maintaining human relevance in the face of AI advancements would be crucial. We
should embrace our ability to adapt and innovate whilst integrating AI into various industries
using it to create benefits for the society!
